30 MarDid your baby throw up when first learning to eat table food?

My daughter is 10 months old and is just getting started on table food. She has eaten little pieces of bananas… Tonight I gave her a few pieces of cheese, shredded chicken and some rice…. all very small and not a lot on the spoon. She threw up in the middle of dinner. What happened?

it was most likely the rice.. she got too full, rice swells in the stomach

Sounds like the rice. Try something else like pasta that’s not so bad my daughter loves it and it doesn’t make her sick.

    Hi Holly,

When babies have something new on their stomachs, sometimes it can cause problems – bad digestion or vomiting. Swelling rice could be an issue (if she had several full spoonfuls), but I doubt it.

If you add any spices or extra salt to the food, this may be the culprit. Rule of thumb is to add one new food per week to allow the body time to adjust.

She may also experience diarrhea within a day or two as a result of the introduction of these new foods.

    Good luck!

The rice did it for my daughter too, it swells in the stomach and even if you gave her a really little bit it is unfamiliar to her & her body automatically rejects it.
